In 1982, 44 years ago, I met Ebi and (his then new wife) Kobi when they moved from Italy to San Francisco and into the 4-plex where I lived.

Despite the language barrier, the three of us became fast friends, with the frequent help of a Farsi-English dictionary and an English-Farsi dictionary...long before phone translation apps and even the Internet. Yes. It was that long ago!

Over many years, it was my pleasure to help Ebi with English language paperwork and to successfully navigate the often confusing and complex American business, healthcare, and legal system.

​

There were so many good times and delicious meals, cooked by Kobi, at the San Francisco apartment, and later, the lovely house Ebi and Kobi bought in the East Bay suburbs.

Ebi retired after running his own printing business for many years. Ebi's English was limited, so our conversations were often short, yet Ebi communicated his appreciation and hospitality quietly and kindly at his home. I always felt comfortable and yet like an honored guest when visiting.
